Rambharos Jha’s Matsya Avatar presents a deeply symbolic and imaginative interpretation of Lord Vishnu’s first incarnation. In this painting, three fishes move in rhythmic harmony, evoking the idea of trinity central to Sanatan philosophy - creation, preservation and transformation. The divine form merges seamlessly with aquatic life, suggesting the continuity between the cosmic and the earthly. Jha situates this form across two realms of existence, Patal Loka and Swarloka, where water becomes both the origin and the medium of divine presence. Yet, the inclusion of a tree connects the composition to Bhuloka, the terrestrial plane, completing the cosmic triad.
